A founding member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is calling for the formation of a new party to aid a reformation of the faction.

According to Dr. Richard Baah Amoako who is making the call, the people responsible for the destruction of the NPP are the same persons leading the party, saying any attempt to reform it from within will not work.

He asserts it would be better for a new party to be formed with same ideology outside the current leadership to mend the broken pieces to become appealing to Ghanaians.

During a discussion on the outcome of Saturday’s polls on TV3 Tuesday, December 10, 2024, Dr. Baah Amoako noted that the state of the party “now it is not NPP’s style.”

“What the party has become is not the party. You heard Prof. Frimpong-Boateng say that this is not the party he joined? So many people are saying that so I have said that this party, you cannot reform it from within,” he stated.

He explained that the situation could have been different with some other parties. But with the NPP, until the leadership is removed, the reform cannot be done.

“Some parties, it is easy to reform but this one, those in the forefront, the party officials, they are the ones who have messed it up and you cannot remove them so how do you reform it? I said let them take that one, you bring another party. Let them take NPP. What is NPP? It used to be UP now it’s NPP so what? Let them take that one too, form a new one,” he stated.

He continued that the party lost miserably in the December 07 elections because of the financial malfeasance that characterised the administration to give the party a bad name.

Instead of addressing the rot that was going on, he said the leadership looked on and borrowed more and shared amongst themselves leading to the party’s humiliating defeat in the elections.

“All the malfeasance that have gone on, they put it at the back of their heads. Hoping that somebody would come and say that we are going to address this. Nobody did, as if it vanished. And then they kept borrowing and more malfeasance.

“And then what happened is that the idea of the party not being good or people running the party not being good solidified. I can tell you the things solidified in the NPP, the things that happened earlier, and more came, made it even worse,” he stated.
