An Executive Board Member of Nsoatreman FC, Alphonse Kudjo Agbetsise, has confirmed a decision by the club to withdraw from the Ghana Premier League.
Mr Kudjo Agbetsise told Onua Sports that the decision was taken following the tragic incident on Sunday.
He says a letter to that effect has been sent to the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
Speaking on Onua TV on Monday, February 3, the Nsoatreman FC official explained that they had left the stadium long before the incident occurred.
“Even the one who handles our social media page had posted that we have won and so everybody should go and chill. It was after this that we heard of the incident, forcing him to quickly pull that post down,” he said on Ns3m Titire.
“The board has submitted a letter to the GFA that if football, which should entertain and bring all together, has led to a loss of life, then we are withdrawing.”
Already, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has invoked Article 14(2) of the Premier League Regulations by banning Nsoatreman FC from using their home grounds.
The club has also been charged not only for the crowd troubles but also the brawl which saw a temporary hold-up of the game.
The Association has also postponed all nine Matchday 20 games, pending a wide consultation with stakeholders on the way forward.
Chairperson of the Security Committee of the Association DCOP Lydia Donkor is in Sunyani leading a fact-finding mission as investigations into the incident begins.
