An aspiring parliamentary candidate in the Obuasi West Constituency, Kofi Appianin Ennin, has supported 500 women with interest-free loans.
Through his Appianin-Bonsec Soft Loan scheme, the money is expected to cushion the businesses of the beneficiaries and empower them economically.
The total amount, GH¢500,000, was presented to 500 women at a short but colorful ceremony in Obuasi by Mr. Appianin, who is also a co-founder of the Appianin-Bonsec Fun Club.
According to Kofi Appianin Ennin, each beneficiary will receive GH¢1000, which is expected to be paid within 5 months.
He said, “This is the 3rd time we are giving out such loans to our women. We are doing this to empower the women who are largely members of our fun club. We are not oblivious to the challenges our women go through so we are doing this to empower them to enable them contribute significantly at home”.
He spoke about his unwavering commitment to improve the standard of living of the people of Obuasi especially women through the loan scheme.
Targetted at reaching out to about 5000 women by the end of the year, Mr. Appianin Ennin said he will continue to render support to women who are into small and medium scale enterprises to expand their businesses and be self sustaining.
He appealed to the beneficiaries to be diligent and use the money for the intended purpose of improving their businesses. This is he said will enable them pay off the loan within the stipulated period of 5 months.
The aspiring independent parliamentary candidate hinted of rolling out a skills development training for the youth in the Obuasi West constituency. He said this aligns with his vision of providing the youth with employable skills.
“Going forward, we will organize a skills development program for the youth. We are doing this with a clear vision of helping them to get employable skills and reduce the rate of unemployment in the constituency”.
The beneficiaries who spoke to the media commended Mr Appianin and the Appianin- Bonsec fun club for supporting women with the interest free loans.
Madam Akua Afriyie, a widow said she has struggled to get enough funds to shore up her business since the demise of her husband.
She averred that the loan will boost her business.
Mavis Asante a resident of New Dokyiwa and a member of the club, said the loan would go a long way to support their businesses. She said the payback conditions were flexible enough to enable them to pay back and concentrate on making profits.
