The Minister of Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has urged contractors working on the Ofankor – Nsawam road project to speed up their work despite the financial constraints.

The Minister wants the project to be completed to ease the frustration of users who have had to endure the inconvenience caused by the construction over the years.

During a tour to the site Wednesday, March 05, 2025, he assured the contractor that his demands for funds would be made available once his request for payment is processed.

He averred that the latest payment request from the contract submitted in January is within the 90-day processing period, assuring him of the government’s commitment to honour the payment in due time.

Agbodza also encouraged better collaboration with the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service to manage diversions and subdue the air pollution being caused by dust in the affected areas.

Meanwhile, the Project Manager, Mahama Abdullai, has disclosed that the project has stalled as a result of many issues including delayed payments, compensation issues and other legal battles.

He revealed that there are currently over 80 court cases on the project which has affected the road construction.

Abdulai added that despite work on the project not stalling completely, things have overly retarded as a result of the financial delay.

He also noted challenges in relocating affected persons, which have further delayed construction.

Mr. Agbodza is expected to also visit the Tema – Aflao and Tema – Akosombo road projects.
