One person has died from the cargo truck accident that occurred on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Ho Bankoe, after sustaining injuries. 

A cargo truck, which was reportedly speeding while descending the Galenkui Hill at Ho Bankoe in the Volta region, veered into the left lane and then onto the pavement before crashing into a shop at the Ho Civic Centre.

The deceased has been identified as a 42-year-old woman. The second person, a 35-year-old man who sustained severe injuries, is still in the hospital receiving treatment.

The victims were both conveyed to the Ho Teaching Hospital for treatment immediately after the accident where the woman later died while receiving treatment.

The crash caused damage to the front section of the truck and partially destroyed two nearby boutiques.

Preliminary investigations suggested the accident may have been caused by brake failure.

Some motorists who witnessed the accident said the truck’s brakes may have failed.

One and a half years ago, a similar accident involving a mini-bus, which was descending the Galenkui Hill towards Ho-Bankoe collided head-on with a heavy-duty truck from the opposite direction, killing 10 people on the spot.

The driver of the truck, with registration number GE 5963-23, was nowhere to be found after the incident.

Two men who were in a tricycle, which was hit by the truck escaped unhurt.
