The grounds of Osu Children’s Home came alive with laughter, music, and celebration last Saturday March 29, 2025, as Onua Foundation hosted its annual “Boafo Y3 Na” charity event, bringing together seven orphanage homes across Accra for a day of festivities, donations, and community support.

The March 29th gathering served not only as a distribution point for essential supplies but created a rare opportunity for children from different homes to socialize, showcase their talents, and momentarily set aside the challenges of their daily lives.

Alhaji Issa Monnie, the head of the foundation, emphasized the event’s central mission during his address to attendees. “Today is about bringing joy to these children who have no one to depend on, putting smiles on their faces has always been our priority as a foundation.”

The donation drive resulted in substantial contributions of essential items including toiletries, foodstuffs, and clothing. Among the supplies distributed were diapers, toilet rolls, washing powder and soap, cereals, eggs, salt, and various beverages including water, Kalypo fruit drinks, and Top Choco. These necessities will help sustain the orphanages in the weeks ahead.

The event was honored by the presence of esteemed donors, including representatives from the Greater Accra Council of Bissa Chiefs, Superior Ladies, and Anim’s Foundation. Their attendance underscored the broad community support and collaborative spirit driving the initiative.

“These donations mean everything to our operations,” confided one caretaker who requested anonymity. “Sometimes it becomes very difficult for us to feed these children or even take care of their basic needs. When organizations like Onua Foundation “Boafo Y3 Na” step in, it lifts an enormous burden.”

While the donations formed a crucial component of the day, equally important was the program of activities designed to entertain and engage the children. The event featured a range of competitions including musical chairs, dancing, rapping, and singing contests. A bouncing castle proved especially popular among the younger attendees.

For many children, these activities represented rare opportunities for carefree enjoyment. One young resident from the New Life Orphanage expressed his enthusiasm: “I’m very happy to be here today. We don’t always witness this kind of event or have this experience. Today happens to be a great day in our lives.”

Another child, beaming after participating in one of the talent showcases, added: “I’m not just happy about the food and fun but also because I was given the opportunity to showcase my talent. This is a wonderful experience and the first I’ve had in years. God bless the Onua Foundation so they will keep doing this for us.”

The event brought together children from seven different orphanage institutions: Save Them Young Orphanage, What a Friend We Have in Jesus Orphanage, Great Mission International Rehabilitation and Children Homes, Great James Orphanage, New Life Orphanage, Potters Village Orphanage, and Osu Children’s Home, which served as the host venue.

Caretakers from the various homes expressed profound gratitude for the initiative while highlighting the ongoing challenges they face. “Whenever organizations like Boafo Y3 Na organize programs like this, we become very happy,” said one administrator. “The children experience things they’ve never experienced before, and they receive items that will be used to care for them in the months ahead.”

As the day drew to a close and children reluctantly boarded vehicles to return to their respective homes, the impact of the event remained evident in their animated conversations and smiles. Beyond the material donations, the Boafo Y3 Na event had provided something equally valuable, a day of normalcy, joy, and the reassurance that they have not been forgotten by the wider community.

The organizers have indicated their commitment to continuing the annual tradition, with hopes of expanding both the scope of donations and the range of activities in coming years.
