Stacy Konadu Mensah, a mother with ten months old twins who abandoned her babies to play for Ghana at the African Wheelchair Tennis tournament in Nigeria, has disclosed they have never informed their families of travelling abroad to represent the country.
She says they only inform family members of having tournaments in the national capital, Accra, without disclosure of the true tourneys they attend outside the shores of Ghana.
Their reason, as revealed on Onua Maakye on Onua TV/FM Thursday, February 16, 2023, is that, they only play for the state on sacrificial basis.

According to her, relatives would be expecting them to bring home money whenever they inform them they have for instance, attended an African tournament in Nigeria.
However, they are not given any money to commensurate the competitions they participate for the country outside, and hence, cannot disclose their travels to relations.
Despite being starved and attacked by robbers with a per diem of ₵100 per player for 9 days, the contingent returned to Ghana and were kept in a storeroom at the Accra Sports Stadium without any medical attention after an earlier care by the National Ambulance Service.
For this reason, the Onua Sports and Maakye teams solicited for funds on air for the National Wheelchair Tennis team and raised GH₵40,000.00 Thursday.
A herbal hospital doctor who had come to Onua TV for his commercial interview, Medimafo Herbal, donated ₵10,000.00 with Obaatanpa Mothercare also giving ₵1,000. The rest was generated through Mobile Money.
Speaking with OnuaOnline, CEO of Medimafo Herbal Clinic, Dr. Adu Gyamfi, indicated “I was touched by their message and felt sad. So I decided to support with the little I had. Hearing a nursing mother who also cannot walk and attacked by robbers, kept in a store room without any medical care, I needed to help in my own small way to support their medication and also for their feeding.”
The Onua teams wish to express their gratitude to Ghanaians who donated to support despite the glaring economic challenges being confronted in the country.
