The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, destooled the Ejisu-Akyeaakrom Odikro, Opanin Kwaku Kyere, after finding him guilty of violating the Great Oath, a sacred tenet within the Ashanti Kingdom.

The destoolment, a significant and rare act in Ashanti tradition, underscores the severity of the offense.

The Great Oath according to Ashanti customs holds an immense cultural and spiritual importance, symbolising trust, integrity and loyalty to the Kingdom.

The tradition says that violating the oath is regarded as a serious breach of the values and principles that bind the community.

With his utmost dedication to preserving the customs of the kingdom and ensuring justice, the Asantehene himself presided over the destoolment process.

The decision followed careful examination and consideration of the evidence against Opanin Kwaku Kyere, with the Asantehene making it clear that such breaches would not be tolerated under his reign.

This destoolment reaffirms the Asantehene’s commitment to upholding the traditions and values that have long defined the Ashanti Kingdom.
