The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed shock over the opposition National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) contestation of some disputed constituencies.
Six days after the December 7 polls, several parliamentary seats remain under contention, with collation expected to be done in Accra.
Evans Nimako, the Director of Elections for the NPP, voiced his confusion over the NDC’s persistence in disputing the remaining seats.
According to George Kwaning, TV3’s correspondent at the collation center, Nimako told Dr. Rashid Tanko-Computer, the Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the NDC, that it was greedy of them to fight over the disputed constituencies.
“Upon all you’ve gotten, you still want to wrestle with us for this one too? How greedy can you guys be?” Nimako remarked on Friday, December 13, at the Tesano Police Station in Accra.
Meanwhile, the NDC has secured an injunction over the collation of the results, claiming that a pink sheet presented by the Electoral Commission (EC) does not tally with what both they and the NPP have in their possession. Despite winning an overwhelming majority in the elections with over 180 parliamentary seats out of 276, the NDC insists on protecting the verdict of Ghanaians through every legal means.
“Remember that on the campaign platforms the promise was to protect their votes using every legitimate method and that is exactly what we have done,” an NDC representative stated, adding that some of their supporters have been shot in Nsawam Adoagyiri and other places. The NDC remains steadfast in its efforts to ensure their votes are protected.
