Over 5,000 residents and their dependants at Akyem Oda and it environs may be in water crises from Thursday October 6 due to the shutdown of the Akyem Oda water treatment plant.

The plant and two other treatment plants were affected by the recent floods in the region.

The Ghana Water Company Limited Public Relations Officer, Kwadwo Daase explains assement is currently ongoing.

“That of Asamankese has resumed. The Densuano water plant may resume soon. But the Akyem Oda Water Treatment Plant may take a while, because water levels have not receded.

“The Akyem Oda situation we are even thinking of fastracking the recession of the flooding water. But its not even getting better compared to the situation at the Desuano plant,” he explained.

Mr. Daase spoke about the interventions for hospitals and schools if the water crises begins from Thursday.

“We have over 5,000 customers in that area. In the interim, when it prolongs, we would have to provide tanker services to those who provide essential services, like the hospitals, school.

For now residents at Akyem Oda are surviving on the storage system that can last for just two days.

“What is happening now is that, they are using water from the storage system that can last for 48 hours. So for now they won’t feel the effect. If the situation doesn’t change, from Thursday ongoing, they will feel the impact,” he concluded.
