The Paramount Chief of Mpohor, Osabarima Kwaw Enstie II, has issued a warning to residents against indiscriminate waste disposal, declaring that offenders will either face a hefty fine or be required to supply ten bags of cement as a penalty.
This directive is part of an intensified effort to improve sanitation in the township and curb the perennial issue of poor waste management.
The Paramount Chief made this declaration during a massive cleanup exercise led by the Youth Network for Development, which saw young people in the community desilting drains and clearing waste across the Mpohor Fiase Electoral Area.
The exercise, held in preparation for the rainy season, aims to prevent flooding a frequent issue in the township and market area during heavy rains.
To support sustainable sanitation efforts, a tricycle has been secured for waste collection, and 50 dustbins have been strategically placed throughout the town to encourage proper waste disposal.
Osabarima Kwaw Enstie II has cautioned residents to strictly adhere to sanitation regulations, emphasizing that maintaining cleanliness is a collective responsibility.
“We have spent money and time in doing this cleanup exercise and will not permit for filth to engulf us going forward. If found loitering, you will be fined or made to buy 10 bags of cement. This is so to deter the habit of indiscriminate disposal of waste,” he paid.
Member of Parliament for Mpohor Fiase, Kofi Bentil, participated in the cleanup exercise and urged constituents to refrain from indiscriminate littering.
He further called for judicious use of the tricycle and the dustbins as he commended the Youth Network for Development for spearheading the initiative.
Ebenezer Kwofie, Secretary of the Youth Network for Development, assured that the exercise will be sustained, adding that the group will collaborate with authorities to enforce sanitation laws.
He further admonished residents to desist from disposing household refuse into the bins.
