Parliament has summoned the Interior Minister, Henry Quartey, to appear before the House and answer questions in relation to the suspected serial killings in Bole and parts of Wa.

The Second Deputy Speaker, Andrew Amoako Asiamah, directed that the Minister appears on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, to brief the House, following concerns raised by the lawmakers from the aforementioned constituencies.

About 16 people have died through similar means between 2023 and 2024, a situation which has escalated fears amongst residents in the affected communities.

During proceedings in Parliament Tuesday, June 18, 2024, legislators from both caucuses were unanimous in getting the Minister appear before the House to respond to questions.

The Member of Parliament for Bole, Yussif Sulemana, noted that “we just arrived from the constituencies this morning and I can report to you that the people of Bole are living in fear. Between May and June, three people lost their lives through serial killing. And this morning, we’ve also heard that two people have been murdered in a very similar manner in Wa.”

Meanwhile, the Wa Central MP, Dr. Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, asserted that the police are sleeping on their job, asking them to sit up and bring the perpetrators of those crimes to book.

“Mr. Speaker, I think that the police must sit up and I also think that some further and quality investigations has to happen in this matter. We are worried about the situation, we are worried that lives are lost, and not much is done to investigate and bring out the murderers and perpetrators of this crime,” he stated.

For his part, the Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, who supported the call for the Minister’s summon but asked that some time be given for him to prepare in order to brief the House adequately.

“But as soon as possible, the Minister should be programmed but he also needs time to prepare and come and brief the House properly,” he noted.

“Next week Wednesday. So, that is my ruling,” Andrew Asiamah Amoako, the 2nd Deputy Speaker ruled.

Meanwhile, the Ghana police service says it has launched investigations into the killings.
