Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, has expressed concern that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) strong leadership has waned.

He believes the party now suffers from weakened leadership, unable to make firm decisions or maintain order, even when things are going off track.

The lawmaker lamented the absence of a resolute and authoritative national chairman who can steer the party through internal challenges and unite its members.

Speaking on Channel One TV Monday, June 23, 2025, he stressed that the NPP was once guided by firm leaders who weren’t afraid to hold even top party officials accountable, unlike now, where discipline and order have disintegrated in the party.

“We’ve been used to strong chairmen who could correct even the flag bearer or marshal his National Executive Officers to sit the president or the flagbearer down to put in place some arrangement for the betterment of the party,” he stated.

His comments come on the back of the ongoing tensions within the party after its humiliating defeat in the December 2024 general elections.

He pointed to recent public disagreements among top party officials as evidence of a breakdown in party cohesion, attributing it to a broader failure in leadership. This, he said, contrasts sharply with past leadership, which effectively steered the party.

Yaw Boamah lamented the current leadership’s inability to foster unity and direction within the party, particularly as the NPP struggles to regain Ghanaians’ confidence after two terms under President Akufo-Addo.

He argued that weak leadership has led to poor coordination and declining discipline across party structures.
