United Staff Association, pressure group on the workers front of the Produce Buying Company, has blamed the erstwhile NPP administration for collapse of PBC.
Speaking on Ghanakoma morning show on Akoma. 87.9FM in Kumasi with Sir John, on July ,18, 2025, the group criticised the NPP for being responsible for the decline of the Produce Buying Company (PBC), Ghana’s largest indigenous cocoa-buying firm.
They cited PBC as a clear example of poor management, alleging that the company’s troubles reflect a broader issue facing many Ghanaian enterprises during the Nana Akufo-Addo administration.
They expressed concern over the difficulties faced by PBC workers, highlighting that many have reportedly gone without pay for 21 months.
The group condemned the government’s failure to provide a clear schedule for the payment of overdue salaries, stating that such neglect demonstrates a lack of responsibility toward the welfare of Ghanaian workers.
The Chairman of the group, Frederick Kwame Boachie, highlighted the challenges workers went through during the period.
“For the past two years, we are not purchasing cocoa beans. Many of our members have died due to financial difficulties. Our wives were the ones feeding us. Things went bad for us during the last 8 years of NPP administration “, he said.
He commended President John Dramani Mahama on measures he has put in place to revive PBC.
Other members of the group who also spoke on the show intensified their calls for government intervention as the once thriving cocoa buying company faces growing inefficiencies and financial turmoil.
They argued that PBC, a key player in the country’s cocoa industry, should receive the same level of attention and support as the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) amid the ongoing efforts to recover the economy.
The disgruntled workers disclosed that their salaries, which have been unpaid for 21 months, remain a serious issue affecting their livelihoods.
