National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Sammy Gyamfi has said he would have wished John Dramani Mahama contested the party’s flagbearership unopposed.

But the NDC’s rules and regulations, he notes, does not warrant that. Rather, any eligible member who wishes to contest can do so for the beauty of democracy.

According to the NDC Communicator, Mr. Mahama is the best amongst the lot who wants to lead the party in the 2024 polls.

John Dramani Mahama, the 2020 flagbearer of the NDC lost to Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo after a keen contest which was won with some few thousands of votes.

The NDC who felt the election outcome was not a true representation of the people’s choice proceeded to the Supreme Court to contest the results which did not go in their favour.

John Dramani Mahama who was President between 2013 and 2016 is seeking to lead the party again in the next elections.

Even though some party big wigs have also expressed interest in the race, most party faithful seem to rally behind Mr. Mahama to be their forerunner for the 2024 race.

Speaking on Onua TV/FM’s Maakye Friday, February 3, 2023, Mr. Gyamfi told host Captain Smart that the NDC now has no better person to lead them than Mahama and it is his wish that nobody contested him.

“Personally I wish Mahama goes unopposed but the party has rules and regulations that needs to be followed,” he indicated.
