The confusion within the ruling New Patriotic Party in the Walewale Constituency continues to deepen as supporters of the incumbent MP for the area and former Gender Minister Hajia Lariba Abudu and supporters of Dr Tia Abudu Kabiru attacked each other in what could be described as a free for all fight in the studios of Eagle FM 94.1Mhz in Walewale.

Dr. Abudu Kabiru beat Hajia Lariba Abudu in the January 27 parliamentary primary of the NPP after securing 145 to emerge winner.

Hajia Lariba Abudu, filed a case at the Tamale High Court, disputing the election result which pointed to a win for Dr Mahama Tia Abdul Kabiru.

The NPP in their bid to resolve the matter, requested for an out of court settlement.

The Tamale High Court presided over by His Lordship, Justice Richard Kogyapwah, on Wednesday (27th March, 2024) granted the party’s plea to settle the Walewale Constituency parliamentary primary stalemate out of court for a period of six weeks.

But in a short video trending on social media, supporters of the two leaders were seen exchanging blows in the studios of Eagle FM, a local radio station in Walewale.

Information gathered by 3news.com revealed that supporters of Kabiru were in the studios discussing the matter when some thugs believed to be supporters of Hajia Lariba led by one Musah, son of the NPP North East Regional Council of Elders chairman, walked into the studio in anger and started beating up one Haadi (a.k.a Yaagsim) who is a resident of Kperiga in Walewale.

The youth, who were monitoring the discussion, upon realizing what was happening in the studios mobilized and rushed to the station to retaliate, but Musah left the studios before the arrival of the irate youth.

The court issue has since been a topic for discussion in Walewale as the leadership of the party failed to address it amicably.

In the January 27 parliamentary primary, Hajia Lariba Abudu polled 138 votes with Dr Kabiru polling 145 votes.

Bawumia to the rescue

The NPP North-East Regional Chairman of Council of Elders, Professor Naa Nabila Sulemana has blamed the Vice President and flagbearer of the party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his inability to resolve the internal wrangling of the party in the Walewale Constituency.

According to the Council of Elders Chairman, the Vice President could talk to the former MP, who is a sister to the veep.
