The Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH) has expressed outrage at the murder of Pharmacist Mohammed Zia-ulhak Zibrim, the Chief Executive Officer of Zimax Pharmacy in Bolgatanga and the General Secretary of the Upper East Regional Branch of PSGH.
A press release dated June 9 said Pharmacist Zibrim met his untimely death on the evening of Thursday, 5th June 2025, when he was tragically shot in his Pick-Up vehicle in front of his residence after returning from work.
“The PSGH unequivocally condemns this heinous and barbaric act which has taken the life of a young, vibrant professional who dedicated his life to the service of humanity through healthcare delivery. We are alarmed that such a despicable act could be meted out to a pharmacist—a critical member of the healthcare team providing life-saving services to the people of Bolgatanga and beyond. This act represents not only a personal tragedy for his family and loved ones but also a loss to the entire pharmacy profession and the nation at large,” the release signed by the President of PSGH, Pharm. Dr. Samuel Kow Donkoh, noted.
We are particularly disturbed by the suspicion that this horrific murder may be linked to the protracted Bawku conflict. Pharmacist Zibrim, a peace-loving Ghanaian with both Mamprusi and Kusasi heritage, symbolized the very unity and cohesion that our society desperately needs. It is deeply tragic that he has possibly become a victim of the very conflict that should have found resolution long ago.
It added that “The PSGH calls on the Ghana Police Service and all relevant security agencies to expedite investigations into this murder and ensure that the perpetrators are swiftly arrested and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. We further call on the government of Ghana to redouble its efforts in bringing lasting peace to Bawku and its environs. The needless shedding of innocent blood must come to an end.
The PSGH called for vigilance and security for all workers including healthcare workers especially community pharmacists who work and close late.
“We also call on the Ghana Police to provide needed security for the members of the PSGH Upper East Regional Branch during the investigation of this heinous crime,” Pharm Donkoh said.
The PSGH extended its deepest condolences “to the family of Pharmacist Zibrim—his aged parents, his wife, and his four children. The PSGH mourns with you and stands firmly with you in this moment of grief.
