The Private Health Facilities Association of Ghana (PHFAoG) has rescinded its decision to suspend healthcare services to the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cardholders.

The Association took the decision on Friday, April 04, 2025, following the National Health Insurance Authority’s (NHIA) failure to defray outstanding debts owed its members.

However, the PHFAoG has indicated in a Sunday, April 06, 2025 statement that the NHIA has assured of paying the outstanding claims by close of Monday, April 07, 2025.

The decision was arrived at after “an exhaustive meeting with the management of the NHIA” where the PHFAoG noted that it was given a renewed assurance of payment by Monday.

It has therefore asked its members to suspend the withdrawal of services to holders of the card following the “good faith” showed by the NHIA.

“On the back of this development, coupled with a show of good faith by the Authority, we have decided to suspend the ongoing action. Nonetheless, PHFAoG shall readily resort to a drastic action in the future should the Authority renege on its promise to the Association,” portions of the statement said.

“The Chief Executive Officer of the NHIA, Dr. Asare Bampoe after the meeting with the leadership of PHFAoG, reiterated his strong desire and commitment towards ensuring a seamless and unbridled reimbursement regime under his tenure as part of his philosophy of contributing to building a responsive and robust health sector in Ghana,” it added, calling on all of its members to adhere to the directive to provide services to bearers of the NHIS card.

“All private healthcare facilities nationwide are therefore advised to adhere to this directive in all humility and continue to provide healthcare to the best of their capacity towards ensuring a healthy population.”
