A domestic fire has burnt to death a police officer with the Anti-Robbery unit in Kumasi, Owusu Asante Baafi, his wife and their 3-month old baby.

The incident occured at a police barracks at Apromase around 11pm, Sunday, January 15, 2023.

The victims were said to have been trapped in their room and effort to rescue them proved futile due to the burglar proof windows and doors.

“I heard some noise and stepped out of my room. I then saw thick smoke bellowing from the room of the deceased and spreading to my room. I quickly woke up my two boys and rushed them downstairs.

“Some of the men who came out tried their best to break in and rescue the officer and his family but they couldn’t because of the steel door and burglar proof window. Within minutes, the fire spread to all the 5 apartments at the last floor,” a next door tenant, Philomena, told OnuaOnline.

The cause of the fire has not been immediately established.

The Ghana National Fire Service, has, however, commenced investigations on the incident.

Bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Living Waters Hospital morgue.
