As the festive season approaches, finance and investment expert Desmond Bredu has urged Ghanaians to plan their spending early to avoid financial difficulties after the celebrations.
Speaking on TV3’s The Afternoon Show, on Monday October 26 2026, Desmond Bredu noted that one common mistake people make during the festive season is attending multiple events featuring the same artistes and performances, often without considering the financial implications.
He recommended that young people be selective with the shows they attend and prioritize events they genuinely want to experience instead of spending on every available entertainment option.
“Don’t be outside too much, especially in this December,” he cautioned, adding that people should consider their financial responsibilities beyond the festive season, including school fees and other essential expenses.
Desmond Bredu explained that planning ahead gives individuals more time to save towards their preferred activities. Ideally, he recommended starting from January, although saving three to six months before December could also help.
He added that people on fixed salaries who have not yet saved for the festivities should identify the events they want to attend, estimate the total cost and divide it across the remaining months to determine how much to set aside.
“Another reason why we overspend is because we don’t plan,” he said.
He also recommended affordable alternatives such as spending time at home or organizing group cookouts where friends contribute towards the cost, stressing that people should tailor their celebrations to their financial circumstances rather than borrow money to fund enjoyment.
