The Ashanti South Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old Yussif Mohammed for possessing a two hundred and seven (207) rounds of assorted ammunitions and other items.
The suspect was said to be carrying a backpack containing the ammunition when he was arrested.
The suspect was arrested near the Asankare Police Barrier with the assistance of some informants.
At a press conference on Monday, addressed by the Deputy Regional Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Cephas Arthur, said “On the spot investigation revealed that the suspect was on board an Accra-bound passenger bus from Kumasi direction, when the luggage, being the said backpack, fell from the bus. The attention of the Police who were on duty close by was drawn to it, and they apprehended the 25-year-old man who claimed ownership of the said backpack.”
Other items found on the suspect include; 2 empty CZ magazines, 1 empty G3 magazine, two G3 magazine loaded with 8 rounds of ammunition each.
Others are; one round of BB ammunition, 35 rounds CZ ammunition, 42 AK 47 ammunition, 16 rounds Redheaded G3 ammunition.
A quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 1 bulletproof vest, 2 black jackets l, one green jacket and one crash helmet.
Two military uniforms were also uncovered.
