The Ghana Police Service has invited the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin to assist in investigation regarding the content of a video that has gone viral.
In the video, the Minority Leader is seen knocking on the head of a Policer officer who was restraining demonstrators from proceeding to a particular sport.
“The Ghana Police Service has reviewed several video footages on an alleged assault on a Police officer by Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin during the just ended demonstration.
“Following the review, the Service has written to the Right Hon. Speaker of Parliament requesting the release of Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin to assist ongoing investigation into the alleged incident,” a press release dated May 5 revealed.
“The officer in question will also be assisting the investigation,” the Police said.

Earlier in the day, a coalition led by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) staged a protest in Accra in order to demand the reinstatement of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, whose suspension by President John Dramani Mahama has sparked widespread backlash from some political quarters.
The protesters gathered at a designated parking lot across from the Supreme Court and presented a petition to the Judicial Secretary. They also presented a petition to Parliament and the Presidency.
According to organizers of the demonstration, the protest is to uphold judicial independence and condemn what they call a politically driven and unconstitutional act by suspending the Chief Justice.
Other political parties, including the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), National Democratic Party (NDP), People’s National Party (PNP), and the Ghana Union Movement (GUM) have all joined the NPP in the protest.
