Dr. Jonathan Asante-Otchere of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has advised the government to set up a Post Appointments Management Committee to curb the excesses taking place as a result of the ongoing ministerial nominations.

According to him, there are many who will be expecting some appointments from their fold and may be disappointed and react in a manner that may not be appropriate.

He says the institution of such a committee, will help manage these expectations to ensure no vandalism and excesses take place as a result of appointments.

His comments come on the back of reports that some youth in Bole-Bamboi allegedly burned car tyres at the residence of President John Dramani Mahama’s father, protesting the MP’s omission from the President’s ministerial nominations.

Similar incidents also occurred in Ho Central in the Volta region where the youth went burning items on the streets and destroying materials from the party’s office saying the President didn’t appoint their MP as a Minister.

Speaking on Ghana Tonight on TV3 Tuesday, January 21, 2025, Dr. Asante-Otchere indicated that such happenings were expected and putting up a body to manage the expectations of people will be the way to go.

He also advised that people lower their expectations since it is not everybody that will get the opportunity to serve in a government.

“Things of that nature were to be expected if the party machinery or the government itself did not anticipate skirmishes of that nature, then I think that itself they’ve not thought of such experience rearing their ugly heads along the line.

“I’m of the view that the government have to set up a post appointment management committee to manage the ambitions and aspirations of people who may have been disappointed along the line. That in itself will tame the excesses in terms of people’s demands here and there.

“They would have to understand that it is not everybody that will get the opportunity to serve in government,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Yusif Sulemana, the Member of Parliament for Bole-Bamboi, has appealed to the youth and residents of the area to remain calm and refrain from any acts of agitation in his name.

In a statement issued Tuesday, January 21, he reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty and support for President Mahama, expressing confidence in the former President’s wisdom and leadership. He called on his constituents to support Mahama’s “reset agenda” and focus on unity and development.

The MP assured residents that their concerns would be addressed and that he remained committed to representing their interests, regardless of the role assigned to him.

“I kindly appeal to the youth and people of Bole/Bamboi to remain calm and refrain from any form of agitation in my name,” Sulemana stated. “As a loyal and devoted brother of H.E. John Dramani Mahama and a firm believer in his wisdom and experience, I wholeheartedly support his decisions,” portions of his statement contained.

He further urged the community to support Mahama in his efforts, cautioning against taking the law into their own hands or engaging in actions that could bring embarrassment to the constituency.

“Please, do not take the law into your own hands or engage in actions that could bring embarrassment to us all,” he added.
