Residents, businesses, and institutions across several communities in the Ashanti West Region have been plunged into darkness on Sunday, February 22, 2026, following a major power outage caused by a technical fault at the Ridge Bulk Supply Point.

In an official statement issued on Sunday, February 22, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Ashanti West Region, confirmed that the disruption in electricity supply was traced to a fault at the Ridge Bulk Supply Point located near the Georgia Hotel.

The Company assured the public that engineers were promptly deployed to the site to address the issue and restore power as quickly as possible.

According to ECG, the unexpected outage affected a wide stretch of communities within the region, disrupting daily activities, commercial operations, and essential services. Areas impacted include Adoato, Abrepo, Barekese, Ghana Water, Kronum Cement, Heman, Amoaman, Nketia, Asuofua, Adankwame, Adugyama, Abira, Offinso and Namong.

Other areas included Boamang, Tetrem, Ahenkro, Kwamang, Kodie, Aduman, Aduamoah, Denase, KCG Company, Afari, Seidi, Hiawu-Besease, Nnerebehi, Mankranso, Kunsu, Sepaase, Nkawie and Mpasaetia.

Also, Abuakwa, Abakomade, parts of Tanoso, Pokukrom, Owabi, Bokankye, Asonomaso, Atwima Koforidua, Tabre, Ntensere, 4BN, Kwadaso, Kokoso, Police Depot, Bohyen, Bantama, and several surrounding communities were affected.

The outage brought temporary inconvenience to households and businesses, with some residents expressing concern over the impact on small-scale enterprises, healthcare services, and water supply systems.

In particular, commercial hubs and densely populated areas experienced significant slowdowns as shops, workshops, and offices were forced to suspend operations.

ECG, however, appealed for calm and understanding, stressing that the fault was unplanned and beyond immediate control. “Our engineers are working tirelessly to rectify the fault and restore supply to all affected areas,” the statement said, adding that safety protocols were being strictly observed during the repair works.

The power distributor also expressed regret for the inconvenience caused, reiterating its commitment to providing reliable electricity supply to customers across the region. ECG encouraged the public to remain patient while repair works continue and to report any related faults through its official communication channels.

ECG had not announced an exact timeline for full restoration but assured customers that updates would be communicated as work progresses.
