President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Dr. Abdul-Baasit Aziz-Bamba as Acting Director-General of the Value for Money Office.
The appointment was made pursuant to Article 195(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 14(1) of the Value for Money Office Act, 2026 (Act 1172).
His appointment was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 by Spokesperson to the President and Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
Dr. Aziz-Bamba will serve in an acting capacity pending receipt of the constitutionally required advice of the Governing Board, in consultation with the Public Services Commission.
Until his appointment, Dr. Aziz-Bamba was a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana School of Law.
He is also a Harvard-trained lawyer.
The Value for Money Office was established to strengthen oversight of public expenditure and ensure that public funds are used efficiently and in the public interest.
The Office is mandated to scrutinise public spending, with a focus on ensuring that every cedi committed by the state delivers value and tangible benefits to Ghanaians.
The appointment is expected to facilitate the operationalisation of the Office and strengthen mechanisms for scrutinising government expenditure, reducing waste and improving value for money in public projects and programmes.
Dr. Aziz-Bamba’s appointment therefore marks a significant step towards establishing the Office as a key institution in efforts to promote efficiency, accountability and prudent management of public resources.
