The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) will resume its personnel recruitment in the Greater Accra today, Thursday, November 20, 2025.
This follows the temporary suspension of the exercise at the El-Wak Sports Stadium after a stampede at the venue claimed the lives of six potential female recruits on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
President John Dramani Mahama ordered the GAF to stop the process, after the stampede, to reevaluate safety procedures and restructure the screening system to prevent a recurrence of the incident.
The GAF, during an interview to announce the resumption said they have employed new measures to ensure the exercise is safe and orderly.
They have announced five separate screening venues with eight centres to curb overcrowding to avoid a similar occurrence.
Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Director-General of Public Affairs at the GAF, averred that the new arrangements will strictly limit the number of applicants admitted each day. She said only 1,200 applicants will be screened daily.
“The numbers that will be at El-Wak will not be more than 1,200. This is because we are going to have two groups there, each made up of 600 potential recruits,” she explained.
The process, Captain Arhin added, will run for a minimum five days, to be conducted in phases, beginning with verification of applicant information and physical examinations.
“The screening is in phases, and this is phase one, where we verify their information and do the body checks,” Captain Arhin noted.
