As part of the ongoing EXERCISE AFRICAN LION 2025, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and the United States Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF), in a show of strengthened Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC), organized a three-day free medical outreach for residents of Kumbungu in the Northern Region.
The outreach, held from Thursday, May 8 to Saturday, May 10, 2025, at the Kumbungu District Assembly premises, provided comprehensive health services including general consultations, health screenings, laboratory tests, diagnoses, and free medications to more than 1,000 residents.
Addressing the media, Major Randy Nii Ofori Tawiah, Head of Public Health of the 6 Medical Reception Station (6 MRS), highlighted the importance of the exercise.
He emphasized that access to quality healthcare is essential for productivity and the wellbeing of the people of Kumbungu, especially during the farming season and, encouraged them to pay serious attention to their health issues and undertake frequent health checkup.
He expressed his appreciation to the District Chief Executive (DCE) for providing the medical team with space for the setup.
District Chief Executive (DCE) Morro Yakubu Kakpagu expressed appreciation to both the GAF and SETAF-AF for their continued support. He underscored the importance of the outreach to help foster a cordial relationship between GAF, the SETAF-AF and the Kumbungu community.
The District Director of Health Services, Brimah Farouk, encouraged residents to seize the opportunity to access the free health services, noting its potential to address undetected health conditions.
In addition to medical services, members of the US Army Civil Affairs team, led by Capt. Peter Darko Afari, visited key community institutions including the palace of the Kumbungu Naa, Kumbungu Senior High School, and Sunniya E/A Primary School.
The team donated assorted medications, oral hygiene supplies, and sanitary products to the community and students.
The outreach marks a successful milestone in the series of CIMIC activities under EXERCISE AFRICAN LION 2025, aimed at enhancing collaboration and mutual trust between military forces and host communities.
