Some youth of the Savannah region have petitioned the king of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale, to ensure dedicated indigenes of Gonja land are appointed into key political positions in John Mahama’s government.

The group says the region is amongst the lowest in development because persons who find themselves in high political offices turn their backs at the people.

According to the group, some persons who were appointed by Mahama in his first administration became power drunk and ignored their people without initiating any major development in the area.

For that reason, they are calling on the king to speak to the President not to consider those persons who had the opportunity earlier and turned their backs on the people, but rather go for persons who will prioritise the interest of the residents and meet their needs for progress.

Already, President-elect John Dramani Mahama prior to the elections promised a lean government if elected, and has reaffirmed the position following his victory in the polls a fortnight ago.

For these citizens and constituents, appointing selfish politicians into the John Mahama administration will derail the progress and development of the incoming government and will not compliment the efforts of the President to deliver on his promises

“Jira, you will agree with us that given the political landscape in Ghana and the Savannah region in particular, appointing the right people from Gonjaland is very significant to us since the region is always ranked lowest among the 16 regions of Ghana in social and economic developmental indices which encompasses education, health, water, and other infrastructural and human capacity development. This does not portend well for the current generation and the future growth and survival of our people,” he stated.

“Some appointees of the President-elect from Gonjaland in his previous administration became power drunk and closed their doors on us. This must not happen again, and all such people must not be considered again,” they demanded.

For his part, the Yagbonwura urged the youth to cooperate with the President-elect and give him the necessary support to deliver.

He believes the development of Gonjaland and the nation at large is of great interest to John Mahama and assured them that the people to get appointments must prioritize the region and kingdom

“I want you all to pray for my grandson John Mahama and give him the needed support. The gods of our land and our great ancestors will choose good people for John Mahama to appoint so that we all get the benefit of his presidency,” he stated.
