The National Executive Councils (NEC) of the Senior Staff Association, Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) and the Federation of University Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSSAG) have suspended their strike action, effective Wednesday, 16 October, 2024.
This is the outcome of an Emergency Meeting held on Monday, 14th October, 2024.
According to a joint statement issued by the two associations, “The NEC have taken this decision after the Government issued a letter indicating that the new rate of the Vehicle Maintenance Allowance (VMA) and Off Campus Allowance be paid to eligible members of the Association.”
“Again, it has also become necessary so that the Association can engage and conclude negotiations with Government on the Conditions of Service (CoS) which had already began,” the statement further noted.
The leadership of the Associations urged government to keep to its words.
“It is our hope that the Government will show utmost good faith to resolve the issues within the stipulated time of two weeks as stated in the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed on October 2, 2024 which included the migration of University of Media, Arts and Communication (UNIMAC) migration onto the Universities Pay Structure,” they demanded.
They urged members to remain calm and resilient “as we engage with Government for all their legitimate claims and issues.”
