The Senior Staff Association of Ghana, together with the Technical University Administrators Association and the Federation of Universities Senior Staff Association, has suspended its indefinite strike.
The suspension follows Government’s goodwill to act swiftly to address the concerns of the SSA-UoG.
A statement issued by the Association on May 22, 2025 said the Ministry of Finance has finally released a letter authorizing the implementation of the negotiated agreement on November 1, 2024.
“On behalf of our sister unions (TUAAG and FUSSAG) and on my behalf as the National Chairman of SSA-UoG, we are pleased to inform you that following our collective action and strong advocacy, the Government has responded positively to our demands,” the statement read.
According to the SSA-UoG, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has also authorized universities to effect payment immediately.
All members of Senior Staff Association of Ghana are expected to resume work on Friday, May 23, 2025.
The Association thanked the Minister of Education and GTEC Director-General, Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai for their immense efforts in addressing their concerns.
Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG), in collaboration with the Technical University Administrators Association of Ghana (TUAAG) and the Federation of Universities Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSSAG) declared an indefinite nationwide strike on Wednesday, May 21, 2025.
The industrial action is to press home their demand for the roll out of the details of an agreement they have with government which was reached six months ago.
Responding to their decision, GTEC in a statement on May 22 expressed disappointment and regret over the decision by SSA-UoG.
GTEC noted that prior to the declaration of the strike, various steps were taken to address the concerns of the Senior Staff of universities.
The Commission says it is therefore surprising that the Senior Staff Associations of the Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) has decided to embark on a strike when various meetings have been held with them and commitment made to resolve the matter.
