Government to roll out smart road tolling system by end of year as community sensitization exercise for Abidjan-Lagos Corridor Highway project Minister for Roads and Highways Kwame Agbodza Governs has disclosed the government will implement a smart road tolling system by the end of year.

The Nana Addo administration scrapped road tolls following the passage of E-levy in 2021. The decision has however been questioned by many given the limited resources at the disposal of the government for addressing the numerous challenges in the sector.

Speaking at the launch of the National stakeholders’ engagement on the Abidjan-Lagos Corridor Highway project Mr. Agbodza argued physical toll booths are fast becoming a nuisance to commuters.

The Adaklu MP lauded the decision by ECOWAS to also implement smart road tolling system on the project linking Ghana to 4 other West African countries including Ivory Coast, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria.

“This campaign is designed to foster open dialogue, build trust, and ensure that the voices of our affected communities are heard, understood,
and integrated into the project’s planning and implementation processes. It is both an honor and a privilege to stand here as the Minister for
Roads and Highways to inaugurate this critical initiative.

This programme, led by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), represents a historic milestone in our collective quest to
transform the Abidjan-Lagos Corridor into a modern, efficient six-lane dual carriageway with supporting infrastructure. This project is a
testament to our shared commitment to regional integration, economic transformation, and sustainable development key pillars of our nations’ strategic growth agendas.

It underscores our unwavering dedication to fostering connectivity, stimulating economic opportunities, and strengthening the unity of our West African community,” he said.

Agbodza further charged the project managers to ensure capacity of locals is built as the project is rolled out. The Adaklu MP urged Ghanaians to take advantage when the time comes.

Managing Consultant and CEO for the project David Nwedu on his party emphasized the essence of engaging residents in communities to be affected by the over 10 billion dollars project to commence in 2027.
