The 2024 elections will be a contest of ideas, policies and flaunting of achievements among political parties.

But for electorates in Ladade-kotopon, their choice of a parliamentary representative in the upcoming elections will be influenced by the myriad unresolved prevailing challenges in the constituency.

The La dade-kotopon seat has been the preserve of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) since 1996 even though the New Patriotic Party (NPP) won the seat in the year 2000.

Going into the December 7 general elections, the electorates say their vote in this year’s elections will be informed by some key issues which are of concern to the constituents.

Access to health care in the constituency has been a challenge after the La general hospital was demolished for reconstruction by the current administration.

But the residents say they are not pleased with the pace of work.

This situation coupled with the prevailing economic challenges in the country has worsened the living conditions of some people who say their vote will be tied to some abandoned development projects in the area.

“Initially, with GH¢10 one can afford kenkey and fish, but same situation cannot be said now. Now with GH¢10 you wouldn’t be able to even afford gari and groundnut, one constituent said.

Residents and commuters became happy when government finally awarded the Osu-La-Kpeshie road on contract for reconstruction, but their amusement was cut short when the contractor later abandoned site.


Portions of the road have been left unattended to affecting vehicular mobility and causing traffic during peak hours.


Electorates say an immediate resumption of work on the stretch can influence their voting pattern.


Some youth in the constituency advocated for prudent policies that will improve education there.


According Selorm, the current state of education infrastructure in the constituency needed facelift. The Malidada Primary School is one of the public basic schools in the area that has had its structure constantly deteriorated.


La Dade-Kotopon is one of the twenty-nine constituencies in the Greater Accra Region, with more than eighty-eight thousand voter population in the previous election.

Incumbent Member of Parliament, Rita Odoley Sowah, will slug it out with NPP’s Joseph Addo for the Ladade-Kotopon seat in the December 7 elections.

For the electorates, the choice of who will be given the nod to represent the constituency in the legislature next year, will have to demonstrate the ability to shape the course of la.
