President John Dramani Mahama has said that Ghana’s economy is in crisis with its citizens suffering unprecedented hardship.

The President says such state of the nation as he announced to Parliament is something he did in a state of melancholy.

During his maiden presentation of the State of the Nation in Parliament Thursday, February 27, 2025, the President pointed out that the state of Ghana is not in the best of conditions.

“Mr. Speaker as I stated earlier Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution requires that I give an account of the state to Parliament. I’m sad to report that the state of our nation is not good. Our economy is in crisis and our people suffering unprecedented hardship,” he stated.

The President further indicated that the two-day upcoming National Economic Dialogue in March and the presentation of the budget statement will give the government the opportunity to present the truest state of the economy to the people to justify why he says it is in crisis.

“Mr. Speaker, we will host a National Economic Dialogue on March 3rd and 4th. On March 11, the Minister of Finance on my behalf will present the budget estimates for the financial year 2025 to this august House. These two events will allow us to present the real state of Ghana’s economic crisis to the people,” he added.
