Ghanaian sprinters Benjamin Kwaku Azamati and Rasheed Saminu have gained qualification in the individual sprint events for this month’s Olympic Games.

Azamati’s world ranking of 39th and Saminu’s 54th qualified the duo to represent Ghana in 100m at the multi-sport event.

Aside individual athletes making it by the qualifying standards, athletes who fall within the first 56 rankings in the world also gain qualification.

As of June 30, the two Ghanaians had fallen within this qualifying ranking.

Unfortunately, Isaac Botsio, a member of Ghana’s 4x100m relay team, who secured qualification on Monday, May 6 during the World Athletics Relays in the Bahamas, finished 59th on the Road to Paris 2024 quota ranking, missing out on a place.

200m expert Joseph Paul Amoah also missed out on a place after finishing 62nd in the ranking.

With boxing having no representation at this year’s Olympics for Ghana, the new additions will come as a boost to Team Ghana.

Already, African champion Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah has qualified for the Paris Games, which kick-start on Friday, July 26 and end on Sunday, August 11.
