A Professor at the Academic City University College, Enoch Opoku Antwi, has charged Mamprusis and Kusasis to abate the killing of each other and live peacefully among themselves.

The Leadership expert says both feuding factions are siblings, one of the reasons being at each other’s throat is beyond his comprehension.

His comments follow the recent killing of five persons, including some three shot by the military, which he said are all as a result of the growing upheavals in the township.

Speaking with Alfred Ocansey on the KeyPoints Saturday, January 20, 2024, Prof. Antwi likened the Mamprugu and Kusal decents to the Samaritans and native Israelites, admonishing the Ghanaian brothers to coexist harmoniously just as it’s happening in the Middle East state.

He expressed the vanity in killing themselves over a matter that should be put to rest by now.

“If you kill all Mamprusis or kill all Kusasis, what happens? They are your brothers and sisters. In Israel, we have the Samaritans and the native Israelites. The Samaritans are half Israelites and they’ve had relationship with them to have kids. Some even marry themselves,” he noted, advising them to concentrate on the bigger issues of development that’s bothering them.

“Bawku has its own problems of road issues, water issues, hospitals, schools issues. These plethora of problems should be your concern, not who should be the overlord because that has been ruled by the Supreme Court and the politicians should back off from what’s happening [and] allow the police and the military to do their job. Their presence alone will maintain peace,” he pointed out.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has bemoaned the escalation of the conflict to other parts of the country.

He confirmed the killing of a deputy registrar of the Bolgatanga Technical University who was a former Assemblyman for Sabongari, an area in Bawku where the late lecturer hails from.

Speaking on Ghana Tonight Thursday, January 18, 2024, the legislator after speaking about the renewed clashes narrated the dastardly murder of the lecturer in Bolgatanga, which he said is linked to the Bawku insurgence.

“…And then in Bolgatanga, some unknown persons went and attacked and killed one of our former assemblymen there who is a lecturer at a technical university and not just shot and killed him but used cutlasses and all sort of machetes and mutilated his body and this is really dastardly, this is unacceptable, my condolences go to the wife and children, the family, his community,” he said.

Apart from the three persons shot by the military, two individuals lost their lives with several others sustaining injuries in a shooting incident near the Bawku Police station on Wednesday, January 17.

The injured victims were transferred to a nearby local healthcare facility for medical attention.

The Bawku Municipal Chief Executive, Hamza Amadu, confirmed the tragic event, stating, “one person died on the spot during the shooting incident, while the second person died on Thursday.”

The demise of the two, together with those shot by the military, make it five in total, those who have died in the area over the past week.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Armed Forces have denied killing the three young men, indicating they were neutralised after firing arms at the military.
