Substitute Joseph Amankwah Opoku scored in the 84th minute to give the Black Satellites a 1-0 win over Central African Republic in the ongoing U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
It was a hard-fought win as Desmond Ofei’s team knocked several times on the goal of the Central Africans to break the deadlock.
Barcelona Atleti’s Abdul Aziz Issah, who was eventually named Man of the Match, missed a lot of chances in the game.
The Black Satellites’ qualification to the quarter-finals had already been confirmed following results in other group games on Wednesday.
Therefore, it was CAR who needed a win at all cost to make it to the knock-out stage.
However, their compact midfield and strong defence was breached six minutes from time as Coach Ofei rung the changes in the final 10 minutes.
There was impact as Opoku picked the ball at the left side of attack to beat the Central Africans giving Ghana the maximum points.
The four-time champions are, therefore, yet to lose in the tournament.
Senegal also beat DR Congo in the other Group C game played concurrently to qualify to the quarter-finals.
The Congolese would have to wait for the other results to have their qualification confirmed, having secured four points in the group.
Ghana’s next game will be on Monday against the third-placed team in Group A or B.
