2025/26 English Premier League side Sunderland AFC have released Ghanaian midfielder Salis Abdul Samed after the end of his loan spell at the Stadium of Light.
Salis joined the Black Cats in the English Championship from RC Lens but had to endure a lot of time on the sidelines due to injury.
He, however, recovered in time for the Championship semi-finals against Coventry and the play-off against Sheffield United.
On Wednesday, June 6, Sunderland announced that all the first-team players except Chris Mepham, from AFC Bournemouth, and Salis have been retained.
“Mepham arrived from AFC Bournemouth and made 40 appearances, playing an instrumental role in the Club’s promotion to the Premier League,” the club said on its portal.
“Abdul Samed featured on 11 occasions and, in addition to his contributions on the field, he became an equally important figure in the dressing room throughout the campaign.”
The club thanked the departing players “for their respective contributions, and we wish them well in the next chapter of their careers”.
The Ghanaian is set to return to the French Ligue 1 with whom he played the UEFA Champions League last season.
