The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak has urged communities to support the government and the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) in the fight against illegal mining (galamsey).

He made the point that galamsey affects the environment and human lives in devastating ways, hence the need to fight it.

He also urged the new batch of NAIMOS to carry out their duties professionally and with trust to achieve their objectives.

Receiving the items, Muntaka thanked the Minister for Lands and National Resources and the NAIMOS for the good work and hand over the illegal firearms to the National Commission on Small and Light Weapons for marking and destruction according to law.

He assured that every single item especially the excavators seized will be published in the national dailies.

In a subsent post on his Facebook page, the Minister wrote that “I assured the public that all equipment and items seized during anti-galamsey operations, particularly excavators, will be dealt with transparently and in line with established legal procedures. Details of such seizures and subsequent actions will be made public through the appropriate channels to ensure accountability.

“I also called on the good people of Ghana, especially communities affected by illegal mining activities, to continue supporting the government and NAIMOS in the fight against galamsey. Illegal mining poses a serious threat to our environment, water bodies, farmlands, and the health and livelihoods of our people.

“To the newly deployed batch of NAIMOS personnel, I urged them to carry out their responsibilities with professionalism, integrity, and dedication. By remaining focused on their mandate and earning the trust of the public, they will contribute significantly to the success of this national effort to protect our natural resources for future generations.
