The Chief Justice, Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, has called for renewed commitment to strengthening Ghana’s justice system as the Supreme Court marks its 150th anniversary.
Speaking at the launch of the anniversary celebrations on Thursday, April 16, he emphasised that the milestone should go beyond commemorating the past and instead serve as a platform for shaping the future of the Judiciary.
“This anniversary is more than a milestone; it is a moment for honest reflection, quiet gratitude, and bold hope,” he stated, referencing the theme: “Honouring the past, celebrating the present, and defining the future.”
Justice Baffoe-Bonnie stressed that the true measure of the Court’s legacy lies not in its longevity but in its impact on society and the justice it delivers.
“History will not judge us by how long the court has existed; it will judge us by what we did with the moment entrusted to us,” he noted.
He further underscored the need for reforms aimed at enhancing efficiency, transparency, and accessibility within the judicial system.
According to him, the anniversary should mark a renewed commitment to delivering faster and more accessible justice while strengthening public trust in the judiciary.
“This must be remembered as a commitment to faster justice, accessible justice, transparent justice, and a judiciary worthy of the enduring trust of the Ghanaian people,” he added.
