Some suspected criminals who were ejected from the Gomao Buduburam in the Awutu Senya West district of the Central region have found safe haven in some neighbouring districts and thereby creating security challenges.

One of the districts is Gomoa East. But the District Assembly says it is working with the chiefs, traditional leaders and the police to resolve all security issues to attract investors.

The Assembly believes the inhabitants that were ejected from Buduburam found themselves in the Gomoa East since they have a common boundary.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa East, Margaret Naana Ackom, made these revelations in an interview with Onua News.

She explained that she is in talks with chiefs to resolve all land and other litigations and then also with police to ignite day and night patrols to ensure peace since this will attract investors.

“From Okyereko to Bereku is dark so I have engaged the police to patrol the district. My five divisional commands are doing so I believe Gomoa East will go far. They (police) will patrol 24/7. Morning, afternoon and evening. We will not allow anyone to be attacked before we take actions,” she explained.

Naana Ackom said she will write to the Defence Minister to help detail military to the District to augment the efforts of the police.

Employment

The DCE said her focus is on agriculture to ensure farmers are supported. “We are in modern Ghana. We use to go to farm with cutlasses but now things have changed. We need to educate our youth to know the benefit of farming.”

Naana Ackom explained that “we need to find a mechanical way of benefiting from agriculture. We have factories that are into electricals. We need to give the youth skilled training and not to always depend on the central government for employment.”

Sanitation

The DCE explained that per the President’s directive that any district chief executive will leave office for failure to ensure good sanitation in their district, she would ensure her district becomes number one in the Central region.

“We are beginning ‘operation clean your frontage’. We will not wait for the national sanitation day to clean our areas. We have twelve electoral areas and they will clean these areas themselves through their assembly members. We will not wait for us to sack ourselves because of filth,” she noted.
