The Tafo Chief, Nana Agyen Frimpong, has thrown his support behind the disgruntled mechanics from the Suame Magazine zone 13 – New road industrial enclave, vehemently denying any knowledge of an alleged land sale that led to their ‘unlawful eviction’ and subsequent protests.

The assurance came when hundreds of aggrieved mechanics visited the Tafo Palace on Friday, October 31, 2025, for answers regarding the sudden barricading of their workspaces.

The workers, who had their workshop areas blocked by unidentified individuals earlier in the day, sought clarity from Nana Agyen Asare on whether he had sanctioned or was aware of any land transaction involving a developer.

Addressing the mechanics, Nana Agyen Frimpong said that he had not sold any land to any developer and denied knowledge about who authorized the takeover.

“I have no hand in this, and I have no knowledge,” the Tafo Chief disclosed, stressing his support for the workers. “You can’t just take someone’s land that has been occupied already without the person’s accord. I support you people in whatever you’re doing.” He further insisted that the mechanics are the rightful occupants of the land.

Nana Osei, spokesperson for the Disgruntled Suame magazine Zone 13 mechanics, reacted to the Chief’s statement with relief. He was satisfied that “the truth had been unveiled.” He reiterated their commitment to “solidly back the chief and his elders in whatever action they may take to ensure that this cheat does not work.”

The visit to the palace comes amidst a deeply tense atmosphere that has gripped the Magazine-Newroad area since Friday morning. Workers arrived at their various workshops only to find their operational areas barricaded by unidentified and “faceless individuals,” effectively preventing them from working without any prior notice or explanation.

The sudden discovery sparked immediate outrage, leading to protests that escalated quickly. A combined team of police, soldiers, and other security operatives intervened, which resulted in the arrest of several of the protesting individuals, further heightening the already tense environment at the scene.

Details regarding the identity of those behind the alleged eviction and the specific reasons for the action remain unclear to the mechanics, who expressed profound frustration at the lack of communication.
