Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), has issued a stern warning to appointees of the Mahama administration, urging them to serve with diligence.
He has cautioned that any appointee found misappropriating state funds or abusing their office will face the law.
According to him, the current administration will not be a respecter of persons, implying that both past and present appointees will be held accountable under the law.
Speaking with Captain Smart on Onua TV’s morning show, Maakye, on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, Asiedu Nketia stated that anyone who abuses their office under the current administration will face justice, regardless of the timeframe.
He emphasised that no one will be exempt, even if it’s before President Mahama’s tenure is over.
The NDC National Chairman, popularly known as ‘General Mosquito’, was commenting on the recent arrest of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, where he advised that any NDC appointee implicated in wrongdoing will face the law without exemption.
Nketia noted that Wontumi’s actions during the previous administration have landed him in trouble, likening him to a child who demands something unreasonable, like a crab’s head, just to cause a fuss.
He jokingly said Chairman Wontumi’s recent experience with investigative institutions has humbled him, suggesting his name has changed to “Wobetumi” to reflect that he’s not above the law.
He stated, “I’ve heard that he’s changed his name to Chairman Wobetumi. A child who wants to cry is the one that demands the head of a crab, and since the crab lacks that, the child will really cry. Wontumi was warned to stop what he was doing, but he insisted.”
He further cited an example of the consequences of abusing office, mentioning Ken Ofori-Atta, the former Finance Minister currently on an Interpol Red Alert notice.
“We’ll keep arresting people, and it doesn’t matter who’s involved, whether you’re NDC or NPP. If you’re an appointee and you don’t do things right, know that you’ll face the same consequences as Ofori-Atta. The difference is, yours won’t wait until after the administration – it’ll be right now. If we don’t allow the law to take its course, we’ll remain in this state,” he warned.
Asiedu Nketia believes Ghanaians have abandoned the “justice” aspect of the nation’s motto, embracing only the “freedom” to engage in illegality.
He added, “Nkrumah said ‘Freedom and Justice’ when he founded this nation, but we’ve taken only the freedom and left the justice. If we don’t restore the justice, this nation will never progress.”
