Plans are advanced to replace former President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s vandalized statue at the Effiankwanta Hospital roundabout in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region.
The move fulfills a promise made by a preacher, Prophet Elija Joshua, the founder of Glory and Dominion Ministry after some unknown persons vandalized the initial one.
The prophet who also contested as an independent parliamentary candidate in the Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira Constituency in the December 2024 elections told Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson, the host of Connect FM’s Omanbapa Morning show that he has already made payment of GHC40,000.00 to a sculptor who has started building a new statue.
“Arrangements to meet the ex-president Nana Akufo-Addo, Members of the Western Region House of Chiefs, the Western Region Minister, and other authorities are being made to seek their consent before the final work will be ready. I have already made a full payment of GHC40,000 to the sculptor and he has assured me the work will be ready by May this year,” he indicated.
He adds that the new statue will be mounted at the same location where the original one was vandalized.

He adds that if authorities prevent him from mounting the statue, he will put it at the bucket of his pick-up truck as an appreciation to the good works of Akufo-Addo in the Western Region.
“Akuffo began the construction of expansion works to convert Effia Nkwanta Hospital to a teaching hospital status. He also initiated the construction of the Takoradi Market Circle and the Kwame Nkrumah interchange.
“There is ongoing work to dualise the Sekondi to Takoradi and Agona Nkwanta roads. These works show that Akufo-Addo left a legacy in the Western region and deserves appreciation. I’ll present the final work in May, if they refuse, I will take it to my hometown or put it at the back of my pickup and drive around,” he added.
In January, the statue of former President, Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo mounted at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital Roundabout was completely vandalised.
Some persons had already made attempts to damage it after it was unveiled to honour the contributions of the former President during his tenure.
