Municipal Chief Executive of Tarkwa-Nsuaem Assembly, Ebenezer Cobbinah, has directed developers near the Tarkwa railway station to cease operations.

Citing concerns over the area becoming a haven for miscreants, Cobbinah emphasized the Assembly’s plans to develop the area for the benefit of the community.

Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality, known for its mining activities, ironically faces significant water scarcity challenges.

Many communities struggle to access reliable water sources for domestic use.

In his maiden ‘Meet the Press’ encounter, MCE Ebenezer Cobbinah revealed the Assembly’s plans to collaborate with crucial partners, such as Ghana Water Company Limited and Community Water and Sanitation Agency, on water infrastructure development.

The objective is to achieve universal access to clean water across the municipality.

“‘Water is life,’ and its availability and quality are crucial to our municipality’s well-being and development. Despite abundant water resources, many Tarkwa-Nsuaem communities face challenges accessing safe drinking water, impacting households, agriculture, industry, and public health. My administration prioritizes addressing water scarcity and contamination.

We’ll collaborate with key stakeholders, including Ghana Water Company Limited and Community Water and Sanitation Agency, to upgrade water infrastructure. Our goal is sustainable access to clean water for all communities, envisioning a Tarkwa-Nsuaem with healthier families, thriving agriculture, and a robust local economy.” He mentioned.

Regarding mining and environmental sustainability, MCE Ebenezer Cobbinah stated that the Assembly will pursue stronger partnerships between local communities and mining companies.

The goal is to promote responsible mining practices and support the reclamation of degraded lands for agricultural use or afforestation.

“Mining has significantly contributed to Tarkwa-Nsuaem’s economic growth and community development, with companies like Gold Fields Ghana Ltd., AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine, and Ghana Manganese Company Ltd. creating jobs and boosting infrastructure.

Moving forward, my administration aims to strengthen partnerships between communities and mining companies, promoting responsible practices and land reclamation for agriculture or afforestation,” he said.

On security matters, MCE Ebenezer Cobbinah highlighted the Tarkwa railway station area as a major concern, citing ongoing activities there as a threat.

He warned developers to cease all operations in the area, noting it has become a haven for miscreants.

“The Assembly plans to transform the railway area into a thriving economic hub, as it’s government land. I’ve directed occupants to produce relevant documents, as the area has unfortunately become a hideout for criminals.

Developers are hereby asked to cease operations, as we intend to utilize the space for the benefit of the entire community, rather than just a select few,” Mr  Cobinnah assured.
