Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) has received one million barrels of locally produced Jubilee Crude, the refinery said, describing the delivery as part of efforts by the government to increase local refining and strengthen the country’s energy security.

The shipment arrived aboard the tanker MT Apache on Wednesday, July 15, according to a statement issued by TOR on Thursday, July 16.

The refinery in a statement said the delivery fulfilled a commitment by President John Dramani Mahama to ensure that crude oil produced in Ghana is refined domestically to add value to the country’s petroleum sector.

TOR further noted that, “it was the second one-million-barrel consignment of Ghanaian-produced crude supplied to the refinery under Mr Mahama’s leadership, following an earlier delivery in December 2016 during his first term in office”

The refinery added that,” the latest cargo was its third one-million-barrel crude shipment since May 2026, after previous deliveries of Bonga and Baleine crude.”

According to TOR, the three consignments have enabled it to continue refining petroleum products for both the domestic and regional markets, with the aim of improving energy security and supporting industrial development.

In the statement, Tema Oil Refinery board, management and staff thanked President Mahama for what they described as his commitment to reviving the state-owned refinery.

The refinery also expressed appreciation to the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, saying his leadership had helped restore refining operations and secure a steady supply of crude oil.

TOR further acknowledged the support of its crude suppliers, Fujairah and Triangle Trading Commodities, as well as regulators, financiers, logistics providers and technical partners involved in the refinery’s operations.

The refinery concluded that, “it remained committed to supporting the government’s objective of strengthening links between Ghana’s upstream and downstream petroleum industries, reducing reliance on imported refined products and positioning Ghana as a refining hub for West Africa.”
