President John Dramani Mahama has said a lot of people seeking appointments in his administration will be disappointed looking at the lean government he promised Ghanaians.
He says despite assuring the public that he will appoint only 60 ministers, thousands of people have been sending their CVs to him for appointment.
Speaking at the Presidential Dinner in Accra Wednesday, January 08, 2025, the President said the demands have placed immense pressure on his administration, indicating many of such persons will be disappointed.
He averred that marrying effective governance and public expectations are difficult but will ensure the needs of the people are adhered to.
“You wouldn’t want to be in my shoes when you’ve promised to appoint only 60 ministers, yet thousands of people are sending in their CVs. Then, maybe some people will be disappointed,” the President said.
According to him, having a successful administration depends largely on contributions from all sectors of society and not merely ministerial appointments.
He says the failure of his administration, he knows, will send the party and the next leader to opposition, the reason they have to succeed in meeting the needs of Ghanaians.
“The success of this administration will secure us another term, perhaps under a different leader. But we must get this right so that Ghanaians can continue to have confidence in us,” he added.
John Mahama also advised members of his administration to take lessons from the flaws of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) which made them lose the trust of the public.
Despite the challenges, Mr Mahama says he remains focused on delivering on his promises and fostering trust through a government that listens and responds to the needs of the people.
“There’s no use fighting for political power if we are coming to repeat the same mistakes,” Mahama cautioned.
