Health danger is looming for residents of Salakope, Amutinu and Agavedzi in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region due to the tidal waves which have flooded most parts of these communities.

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) says the tidal waves have taken over some cemeteries in these communities and as such, some family members are exhuming the bodies for re-burial.

The Volta Regional NADMO Director, Pascal Agbagba made this revelation in an interview with Onua News.

A devastating tidal wave disaster has left the residents in that part of the region in trauma, with at least 51 houses destroyed and over 681 individuals displaced.

“Some family members are exhuming the bodies for re-burial and that could spark another disease”, Mr. Agbagba explained.

He said, “we will be organizing a sensitization exercise and health screening for them on Thursday”.

The NADMO Director said “the mental health of the people has also been affected so we have sought the help of psychologists who will come and psych them up”.

Mr. Agbagba said “a total of 681 people in two communities have been affected and they are putting up at classroom and community centers”.
