Two of the seven Asante Kotoko players currently in the US for the 2024 Capital City African Cup have gone missing, according to the club.
The two – Esmat AbdalHamid Mohamed and Obdoelkarem Yoouef Yangon – are said to have left the team’s hotel without permission on Friday.
All efforts to contact and locate them have been unsuccessful, Asante Kotoko said in a statement on Saturday.
“The club has officially notified law enforcement authorities in the United States and is cooperating fully to ensure their safe return.”
The club is, therefore, urging all its supporters to remain calm “as we work with the relevant authorities”.
The team was scheduled to play DC United on Saturday in the Africa Cup but had plans scuttled due to denial of visas to some players.
The club, therefore, officially withdrew from the ceremonial game and announced that the earlier party of players and officials will return home on Sunday.
