Dean of the University of Ghana Student Affairs, Prof. Rosina Kyeremanten has directed the suspension of all social gatherings due to the resurgence of COVID-19.

In a press release issued on June 25, the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof Rosina stated that “GRASSAG, SRC, JCR, DEPARTMENTAL, & School Associations’ Week Celebrations/Activities are therefore suspended.”

The Dean, however, stressed that the difficult decision is necessary to ensure the safety of students and staff.

“These measures have become necessary to safeguard the health and well-being of the University Community.” The letter says.

The University Health Services in a letter dated 23 June, 2025 announced the resurgence of the COVID-19 virus with a few suspected and confirmed cases reported within the University.

It noted that “in light of the development, all staff, students, and visitors are strongly advised to remain vigilant and to strictly adhere to the following recommended preventive measures to reduce the risk of infection and spread:

  • Wear face masks properly, especially in enclosed or crowded spaces.
  • Wash hands frequently with soap under running water or use alcohol-based hand sanitizers.
  • Maintain physical distancing of at least one meter where possible.
  • Avoid large gatherings unless absolutely necessary.
  • Ensure good ventilation in offices, lecture halls, and meeting rooms.
  • Stay at home if you experience any flu-like symptoms and seek prompt medical attention.”

The Health Services Directorate has also reactivated its COVID-19 Response Protocols, including screening measures at health facilities while it monitors the situation closely for regular updates.
