Highlife Afrobeats sensation, Nero X, has charged African leaders, specifically Ghana, to adopt attitudinal change to ensure their countries resources become useful for their citizens.

According to the artiste, many countries are endowed with so much resources but are not reaping any benefits from them as a result of poor leadership decisions.

He has, thus, launched a campaign through his new song dubbed β€˜UmofiaEconomy‘ to drum home a message to global leaders to be prudent in their spending to make use of the resources they own for the betterment of their economies.

He tells OnuaOnline exclusively, how he came about the song following the recent economic crises confronting many countries.

“The title of the new song is ‘Umofia Economy’. Looking at our current situation –the world, Africa and even Ghana –everyone is facing economic crisis and I thought of it as a creative person to put them together and make a song out of it.

β€œIn the song, I address world leaders that they should actually have mercy on their citizens. Sometimes they overspend and countries like Ghana, Nigeria, Zimbabwe; we have mineral resources and that’s mostly for the whole of Africa but we are the poorest. Our leaders can do better,” he charged.

He bemoaned the poor deal usually signed by African leaders especially, with foreign agencies on the allocation of mineral royalties which always favour the investors at the expense of the resource owners.

He believes leadership can strike better deals.

β€œ…We own the mineral resources and so what do we do, we should strike better deals for ourselves. Our leaders let other people take the bigger profit of our resources and the nation does not benefit. I travel a lot, and some countries don’t have much resources as we have but they are able to utilise it to benefit themselves so I think that is what we should emulate,” he indicated.

Nero X says he used subtitles for the lyrics of the song for the global world since his message is for leaders beyond the country.
